QUOTE BOARD

"Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) represents an intermediate state between normal cognitive ageing and dementia. Given the increasing dementia burden in the country, there is a critical need for early detection through the assessment of MCI.”

“Vitamin D, B1[thiamin], B2[riboflavin], B6[pyridoxine], and B9[folic acid] levels were significantly lower in the MCI group, with a higher burden of deficiency. Higher vitamin levels were correlated with better MoCA [cognitive test] scores and a lower predicted probability of MCI, especially vitamins D and B6. In particular, B2 and B6 have shown associations with BDNF [brain-derived neurotrophic factor], tau [protein associated with brain function decline], and Nfl [neurofilament light chain] markers.”

“Conclusions: Lower levels of circulatory vitamins were significantly associated with a higher probability of MCI. Also, neuronal biomarkers were significantly associated with micronutrient deficiencies. These findings suggest that micronutrient deficiencies may be associated with MCI in older adults, highlighting the potential importance of maintaining adequate micronutrient status to support healthy cognitive aging and possibly reduce the risk of dementia.”

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

“Malnutrition has emerged as a risk factor for cognitive impairment, with inadequacies in several micronutrients contributing to conditions such as hypertension, obesity, and type 2 diabetes mellitus, which are themselves associated with cognitive decline. Micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals are critical for maintaining neuronal health, and imbalances or deficiencies may contribute to neurological disorders. In particular, D and B group vitamins are important in neuronal metabolism, methylation pathways, antioxidant defense, and neurotransmitter synthesis.”

Many consider dementia to be type 3 diabetes because the risk factors are virtually identical – as they are for all chronic illness. Systemic inflammation, high blood-sugar/insulin resistance, and obesity are highly inter-related and are all foundational causal factors in the pandemic of chronic illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, digestive disorders, pain disorders, and emotional/cognitive diseases which represent the leading causes of illness, death, and healthcare spending.

You need to understand that the underlying causes of the underlying causes of chronic disease are poor nutrition, lack of exercise and physical fitness, and lack of psychological fitness. You also need to understand that prescribing or taking drugs to treat the diseases caused by unhealthy lifestyle (obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, depression, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, etc) or to treat the underlying physiological risk factors of disease (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high blood sugar, acid reflux, inflammation, emotional stress etc) will NEVER prevent or resolve chronic illness.
